Illinois Central Elite-ICE place 10th at nationals

The Illinois Central Elite-ICE Team recently finished 10th in the country at the Sixth Grade Based DI AAU National Championship at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia, July 26-29 with a team record 4-3.

Illinois Central Elite-ICE qualified for the AAU National Championships by winning the Central AAU (Illinois) District Qualifier with a 4-0 record, and Central AAU State Champions May 18-19 in Lake Zurich.

Illinois Central Elite-ICE has won the Central AAU State Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

In June and July, the team started to prepare for the AAU National Championships by competing and winning the following tournaments/shootouts:

• FTG Father's Day Shootout at Libertyville Sports Complex, 3-0

• One Day Shootout Borders Wars Saturday Shootout at Pleasant Prairie Recplex, 3-0

• Old Gold Run-N-Gun at Corliss High School, 4-0

• Jr. Hoops Elite Mini National Tournament at Riverside Brookfield High School, 4-0

In Sixth Grade Based DI AAU National Championship, Illinois Central Elite-ICE played the following games in pool play and tournament bracket play:

Pool play games:

• ICE won 59-35 vs. Madison from Maryland.

• ICE lost 80-39 vs. Nightrydas Elite from Florida, who finished fourth in the country.

• ICE lost 63-52 vs. Team United-Ford 12U from North Carolina, who finished sixth in the country.

Tournament bracket games:

• ICE lost 60-57 vs. Utah Titans from Utah.

• ICE won 44-33 vs. Starting Five Basketball from New Jersey.

• ICE won 56-50 vs Team Cole from Ohio

• ICE won 69-66 vs. Mark Black All-Stars from Florida, who finished 12th in the country.

The team is coached by Brian Davis, Todd Wolf and Octavius Parker.
